Double-header: How to Sell a Life Sentence and the 9 Principles Major Case Management

Calgary Police Service homicide detective Dave Sweet brings us two presentations:
How to Sell a Life Sentence: Det. Sweet explains the strategies he uses in the interview room and how he creates a space that empowers suspects to tell the truth, even if it means they will serve a life sentence. He uses chilling case examples and details to illustrate these strategies, as well as including the pitfalls to avoid and the safe-guards that are in place to ensure and/or verify information.
Nine Principles of Major Case Management: Det. Sweet explains the nine principles of Major Case Management: the command triangle, communication, accountability mechanisms, investigative strategies, partnerships, leadership and team building, management considerations, ethical considerations and legal considerations. This investigative management model came as a result of the Campbell Inquiry after the violent serial rapist and killer Paul Bernardo eluded police detection because of the lack of coordination between jurisdictions. The model gives technical insight into investigations and is an effective project management system. Det. Sweet brings us through increasingly complex processes and explains how to stay agile to ensure success, no matter the size of the project.
